I wish I still lived in Hugo Oklahoma. If anyone is nearby go to the local cemetary and take pictures of the circus area of the graveyard. Talk about some HUGE and WEIRD gravestones!!!!

I took some photos in a family cemetery this morning on the way to work. I didn't realise my tripod had to be in the photo too.

This is probably gonna sound weird, but I used to do paranormal investigating and such...had a website which now forwards to my photography website.. //www.NTPRS.com"North Texas Paranormal Research". I still operate a Yahoo group for the same thing, and it is active with about 45 members. I have done several radio shows, numerous newspapers, been mentioned in 2 books, and even did a live show on channel 8 "Good Morning Texas" out of Dallas a couple of years ago for Halloween. I am soooooooooooo used to cemetaries, this challenge will be kinda fun for me. Just look up on a yahoo search "north texas paranormal" and you will see my //www.BigDPhoto.com website pop up in the number 1 slot. Just never changed the keywords on my website yet.

My schedule keeps changing, with the long weekend and such, but I would like to hook up if possible. Here are a couple of links.

//www.frommers.com/destinations/toronto/A21117.html

Let me know when you and others are planning on showing up and what entrance / parking you plan to use and I'll try to join in. (that way we can get LOTs of tri-pods in the photo.)

I guess we must ask ourselves, "If I were in a cemetary visiting a gravesite, would I be offended if someone had a were shooting pictures/using a tripod/etc.?"

Here are a list of things that would personally bother me and things that wouldn't.

Things I wouldn't be bothered by:
1. Someone taking scenic photographs of the cemetary landscape, a row of gravestones, etc.
2. Someone taking pictures of individual stones or a few stones without people, or with models who came with the knowledge that they would be photographed (not candid of strangers mourning).
3. Pictures of naturally occuring (already there) humurous things, such as a funny epitath (spelling?), or something with clever naturally occuring irony (not staged), possibly the name 'I. Lives' on a stone (hypothetical--sorry to any Ian or Ingrid Lives out there!).

Things that would bother me:
1. Someone taking candid photographs of visitors to gravestones (people not intending to be photographed. Mourning is a somber thing and should be treated with respect.
2. Someone taking humorous photographs with models or brought-along props with gravestones of no significance to them as part of the subject. I suppose if it was a friend's gravestone, and you stage something that would've made that friend giggle, that's allright, but don't make games with a stranger's gravestone--again, the somber thing.

As far as equiptment or props used is concerned, as long as it isn't destructive, leaves messes, or makes obnoxious noise, I don't see anything wrong there.

I'm curious as to things/behaviors that other readers find appropriate or in appropriate. Are there other places where you'd draw the line? The bigger general consesus we can get, the more accuratly we we can shape in our heads what is considered proper etiquitte or what isn't. I'd hate to think that a behavior of mine in such a place was unsetting someone there to mourn.

Shoot at night then no-body will see you..
Im looking foward to this one I can tell you. Call me sick or whatever but I LOVE graveyards, I have a plan / location and now, weather permitting, Ima ready to create my pic. Wish I could say more but dont wanna give a penny away on this one. I will really enjoy voting on this too.

Take your tripod, set it up, and stand proud as a photographer, you are doing your job...simple as that.

I find it hard to believe no photography is allowed given the extreme number of images available and the popularity of the cemetery. However, just to be certain I have sent off an e-mail to confirm whether or not general photography is allowed. I'll let you all know. Frankly, I think it would be crazy not to allow photography as I imagine lots of people have legitimate research work, are visiting relatives, are studying the world famous tree collection etc.. Regardless I intend to visit this weekend and will be respectably snapping until told otherwise. (Assuming I get the ok through e-mail I̢۪ll print off copies so we can all come armed against over zealous security guards! (Which I highly doubt patrol)

They stopped a large group with cameras, simply stating no pictures, it is private property. I would still go, just not in that large GTG..there is no way they can keep up with individuals, especially if you are at all discreet. A group standing around with tripods waiting for others ot arrive is another thing altogether. Enjoy...

We're lucky that way here; Cape Cod is Graveyard Central. Been "westerners" living here for like 400 years, and there's not all that much land. Can't drive 5 miles without spying a cemetery... And they are nearly all full to capacity, just old graveyards. Some small, some middling, some big. Pretty austere though; largely simple, protestant stones. The polar opposite of New Orleans.

Anyway people take pictures of them/in them all the time. One of them just down the street from my house; you saw it in the AA challenge. So cemetery I got. Now I just need a BETTER shot. Time to wander...
