Having fun with an old slide I scanned recently. Decided to try my hand at converting it to b/w after the Ansel Challenge has whetted my appetite in that direction. Suggestions desired as I am working to improve that facet of my skills.

the hillside is a bit soft. not sure if thats the conversion, the processing, or the original slide causing the problem though.

It would help if we could see the color version as well.

Done, thanks. As for the hill, yup it's soft. Still wanted to give this old horse a ride though. Shot with a spotmatic f and who knows what lens long time ago.

Why on earth would you voluntarily want to lose all those lovely colors?

Well, the point is to learn how to find and bring out tonality, which is very new to me. So I am using a copy of a slide. The slide remains untouched and it's color scanned version does as well. Meanwhile, I am enjoying understanding and attempting black and white / grayscale processing.
