I was looking at a 350D and the prices are sooo good... I know alot of people don't like to buy from Ebay, but I have never come to a conclusion why? Has anyone had any bad experiences when buying through ebay? I don't want to drop the money to get dumped on my butt, you know?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I bought my D70 off of ebay along with two lenses. They're all factory reconditioned (which was in the description) and I'm perfectly happy with them. I just made sure to check the positive/negative feedback and went with a company with a high rating.

Depends on the seller.

if the guy only has 1 positive, i'd be a bit careful.. anybody can get 1 positive. if you're gonna go with ebay for an expensive purchase like that, go with someone with a decent number (at least 75, with a 95+ % positives, i would say) or go with a power seller (one of those with like 10000+)

Looking at feedback ratings is always a great idea ... but delve a little below the surface ...

There was a scam here (Australia) a year or so ago. My best pal, also a DPC member, got burned by it. It went like this .....

He bought a Minolta off a guy who had sold several hundred items over the last year and had almost a 100% seller rating. He paid for the camera, looked very safe ... camera never arrived.

It turned out, when looking deeper, the guy had been selling $10 and $20 items all year just to build a reputation. Then, in the same week he sold $70,000 worth of expensive gear, mostly cameras, he never had and he just vanished with the $. Police were involved, it even made the papers, but they never caught him.

When I sold my 10D on ebay the buyer insisted on using an Escrow service, run by ebay. Nice system, protects buyer and seller alike, and worth the hassle for expensive items.

It was a floor model at a camera store used to advertise the product or used for some similar purpose. The store obviously couldn't sell it, so it goes back to the factory to get cleaned and thorough "once over" to make sure it's working correctly. Then a resaler with sell it at a cheaper price (or, like mine, on ebay), since it's technically somewhat used. I got my camera, two lenses, and several other minor accessories for several hundred dollars cheaper than if I had bought them all new from a store down the street. I did, however, make sure I got an extended warranty.

The ebay store I bought my camera from had over 60,000 positive reviews.

Edited to add: I made sure to investigate that it was, in fact, a camera store on ebay selling the camera with an address, phone number and website. I also checked whether they had previously sold items in the price range I was paying.

I bought both my lenses from eBay. My advice is to check the feedback on your seller and have high standards in that regard. Also set yourself an absolute top end price. Don't be tempted to bid past that.

Other than that - enjoyr yourself.

I brought my camera off ebay, no problems.
Just read the description carefully and check the sellers feedback.
Also if I was buying something expensive I would buy it from my own country as not many items are insured to travel overseas and I have had the odd cd etc go missing which I could not trace etc. So just check how they are sending it.

I also bought my camera and several lenses off Ebay. One way I chose to "insure" my purchases was paying through Paypal by credit card. That way if my purchase did not arrive or there was a problem with the item once it arrived, I could fall back on my credit card's buyer protection. Paypal also offers some protection from unreceivables and/or broken on arrival products but there is a price limit on the items purchased and it is not as good as the protection from "bad sales" that your credit card offers. Hope this helps.........

I thought that if you bought of ebay your guarranty would not be valid?
is this true?

I have bought many things on ebay.. As metioned check feedback for positive, look at what has been sold in the past 60 days, and ask the seller a question about the camera to make sure their is a live "body" on the other end.
Ebay works with paypal that will cover all purchases so go with that incase the seller opts out on you.. Its only a few extra dollars for the protection. Buy shipping insurance too although I have never had any problems in shipping yet.
Good luck and I hope you get a good deal. Man there are so many cameras there to choose from its alomost unreal...

I have a credit card through Providian.I ordered a SONY CD Mavica 500 Camera off a merchant on Ebay for my sister, the camera never arrived -as many other bidders merchandise from this seller did not as well. I provided Providian a copy of the auction that was listed and a receipt from Paypal, as well as the grievance I had filed with Paypal. Paypal also sent me an email of their findings after investigating my complaint which I also forwarded to Providian (The seller took all the funds from the account and closed up shop). Providian refunded me the amount of the camera purchase price ($520.00 at the time) on the following month's statement.

I read last week that the two safest things to buy on Ebay were camera equipment and golf equipment.

Don't know why..

That was put there by a dealer who was basically saying "Buy From Me!"

If it has a valid USA warranty card Canon will honor it. I have no Idea what Pextax's policy is. And the link you gave is about watches, not cameras.
