AAAAAAACK!! I totally forgot about the Queen Mary trip! Seriously, someone kill me or just severly maim me for being so forgetful and stupid. I really really need to visit DPC more often or something. Anywho, I kinda made other plans for this Saturday morning, sorry. :( These plans take up a good half day then going out for dinner that night with the family so I don't think I can make it.

Tom, I apologize to you especially for all the hard work getting the tickets for us and then I just pull this on you. If you had to pay for them in some fashion, let me know and I'll make it up to you.

Everyone else, I'm really sorry about me being so flaky lately. Been so busy with work and other stuff my brain doesn't work so well anymore. I need a vacation. Again, I'm sorry and apologize.

If anyone else wants to go, speak by tomorrow morning or forever hold you peace, as I'll be picking up the tickets tomorrow by lunch.

I am really looking forward to this trip! I've never been on the QM! :)

In that case, we should really take out time, take in the scene. It's an interesting ship, it's old, so it's a bit spooky here and there, but definately worth taking a long visit.

We can take as much time as you are willing. I am up for any exploring :) I need to borrow your dust blower though. I went to Samy's and they were charging $15 for it. I looked online and it was $12. I want to find one for under $10. Also, that thing is huge... so, not sure I'd carry it. My backpack is small. I also need to find some eclipse. Samy's is out of it. :(

Raul, PM or email me your address and directions. :)

I'll have the blower in my backpack. A cheap alternative is to get a bulb suction thing for baby's noses at the drug store. It's small round and blue (ususally). It's only a few dollars too.

Hey, I'm actually going on a DPC meet! Imagine that, LOL! :) I'm bringing Katy along with me but we won't be able to join you for the tour at 11 as we're busy in the morning but should be there by 2 if not earlier. I'll have my 2 usual lenses (16-35 and 24-70) and my rocket air. I noticed Tom mentioning something about a blower and not sure what that is but I'd imagine it's something that uses a bulb to blow air for dust removal. I left my flash hood and tripod at work as I'm taking photos there for a brochure. Hopefully I won't need either of them. See everyone tomorrow! :D

PS: Here's a link to the Rockt Air: //www.2filter.com/prices/products/rocket.html

Once again, it was fun. Sorry Greg and Katy had to leave early. We went across to the shoreline village afterwards and took night time shots of the QM after sunset.
Once again would post if I wasn't cheap and lazy.
Will have to leave it to Arie and Raul to do the honors.

Hi Tom and everyone else!

I have lots of space on my web server and I can create a directory for you if you'd like. Then we need to work on the lazy part. :) Thanks again, Tom, for getting the tickets! Katy and I really appreciated it. Just wish we had more time to spend on the boat but we had a pretty busy schedule yesterday. Quite impressed everything worked out as well as it did. :)

I'll post my photos later after I post process but some just looked sort of blah. I've been out of it for so long I almost forgot how to take photos. I even left my polarizer on the lens for my indoor shots! :(

I will be working on my photos this week. No idea when I'll get them online, but I'll post when I do!

I had a blast! I think I got some great shots! :) It was a really great day!

You won't believe the kind of photos i got with my polorizer still on inside!! :). Lets hope you get back into knowing how to use your camera.

Hey everyone, well I've processed all the pics from Long Beach. Just waiting for them to be converted to JPEG as I type this. Now I'm gonna wrok on my Renaissance Faire pics. This is so addictive... but fun.
Greg, even if you offer space on your website, I think I'm still too lazy to post. I get enough joys out of taking the shots, processing them, and then viewing them. I really appreciate the offer though.

LOL exactly! I haven't looked at them yet but I have a feeling they won't look very good. We'll see. :)

well hopefully some of you are still awake. The photos below are from Santa Fe Dam Renaissance Faire and have some info within them. Nothing special just Tom wanted to see the quality of the Tamron 24-135mm. The first photo I'm currently working on, one of my favorites from yesterday.

Raul, those are some pretty nice shots you got! Quality of that Tamron look pretty impressive. Colors are nice and images are nice and crisp. Love the details of the duck feathers! Maybe next year I'll go to the Faire. Never been to one and always wondered what they are like.

very very very hot... very.. went through 1.5 liters of water like it was crack and i was a crackhead.. :D.. I have about 30 from the Faire that i really like and want to process. It is a fun experience though, it was my first renaissance faire.

Not bad, not bad at all...
Of course, everyone knows that the Canon 28-135 IS is the BEST walkaround lens of all :)

What about the Canon 70-300mm DO IS? That lens is a nice physical size and could replace my 24-70 lens when I go to China or travel in general and want long range. Anyone have experience with that one?
05/24/2005 01:26:57 PM · #125
Greg,
I was kidding Raul about the lens. I think the 28-135 IS is a good lens, nothing more, nothing less.
Your 24-70L should be a wonderful walkaround lens. I haven't heard much about the 70-300 DO IS lens though. Perhaps you should do a search on it at dpreview.com's Canon SLR lens forum and get a sense of how people feel about the lens. I think it's too much of a telephoto for general walkingaround purposes, but you never know.
