Good deal. I would agree. The 20D sounds like the better deal.

I dont have a 20D... but i think 350 is best because in 2-3 years it will be obsolete anyway, you keep your lens.. ! ..
Lens choice is exellent.. event the Tamron 28-75 , almost all the tamron is cheep lens exept this one is great !... i have it, lot better than the 18-55 canon 300d lens...

HTe 20D is better than the 350XT..but not much. You list the 20D with the kit lens, the 350 w/o - why the difference?
What do you plan to do (shoot)? You are making a big move up, as i did from a fuji S602 to the Rebel. I have not gotten a long lens yet. I don't really miss it. (the S602 would do upto 210mm (35=)zoom the longest i have for hte Rebel is 80, a 128mm with the 1.6 factor)
A Sigma EF500DG super or canon 550EX might be more useful, or a macro lens or extension tubes. I missed macro the most!
Either way, the lenses last the bodies get old...in 2 years when you want to upgrade which body can you sell for more or would like as a backup body?

Rebel XT
Tamron 28-75 2.8
Canon 50 1.8
Canon 70-200 f4
It is hard to justify the cost difference between the XT and the 20D unless you are a professional or have LOTS of money or just REALLY love your camera:)

I think everyone here really loves their camera if they have one that will take good pictures. The 20D is a more substantial, better built camera that will hold up longer then the Rebel and have a higher resale value down the road if the owner should ever decide to sell. And if your were a professional with lots of money then neither the Rebel nor the 20D would be the camera of choice. Lots of money = 1Ds Mark II. My next camera if I can ever scrape up the money.

Rick,
What are you planning to do with the camera, and what is your budget? (I know, take pictures, but be as specific as possible -- what is your passion?) Without knowing that, we can't give you a meaningful answer.
