I've seen a lot of newsgroups on the Internet that have recommended the Sunpak 383 Flash for a Panasonic DMC-FZ20.
The beginning of this week I actually wrote the company from their online site about the availability of this unit.
unfortunately at this time i have not heard anything back from them.

Does anyone know of a U.S. website that carries the sunpack and has them in-stock?

Has anyone had good success with a different flash on their Panasonic? Have read about a lot of people using different model sunpaks or vivitars.
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

I use a small sunpak Auto 301 with my S7000, really good for fill flash, but you have to use manual mode if it is you primary light ie candids at night, Ive kept with Sunpak over the years and found them excellent flash units

Amazon sells them. I was going to get one when I got my FZ20, but I ended up returning the FZ20. Take a look at Amazon if yo get the chance.

I was just looking for this same unit today and checked B&H. They are out of stock and it states they are unsure of availability. I went to the Sunpak web site and it was not listed amoung their current flashes, so I assume they are not producing them anymore. You may want to check Ebay and you could probably get one for half the price it normally goes for.

I believe the Quantaray 383 is the same unit. I got one at Ritz Camera less than a year ago.

not my auction.

the 283 is the one i have heard of. I have a Quantarray SBZ370 that i got off ebay for $23. Used it on my Fuji S602 and now my Rebel. It has taken me a while to get a handle on using a semi-manual flash (as opposed to TTL).

I set the flash to auto (it has 2 auto and one manual -full power- setting). Set the camera to manual. ISO 200, 1/125 (can be anything up to 1/200), F 5.6-6.3 range depending on my subject's distance (1/2 a room or less vs 1/2 a room or more) The flash is supposed to adjust the output (it can read distance i suppose). My variance may be my zoom lens too. Works really well, TONS better than the little pop up flash.

watch out for trigger voltage - find out what your camera can stand and what the flashes you are looking at rate. Fujis can take up to 400v. Canons no more than 6v. My Quant does 6.7v...i figure there is a margin of safety in there and i plan on getting a Sigma soon (tax return....). I have an older quantarry - 273v!!

I know where to get one locally, brand new. If you're interested, PM me and I'll see the lady I deal with on Tuesday when she gets in. They can probably courier it to you. It's a 383 Super.
