modeling lights are for modeling, they are used to get some kind of idea to what the flash will do. Also usually those bulbs are daylight balanced anyways.

If you are going to mix lighting buy some colored gels from roscolux to either change the flash to tungsten or tungsten to daylight. Most bulb manufactures have online charts telling you what the color temperature in Kelvin of that bulb is and you can correct from there. The gels cost like $7-$8 a piece.

make sure any bulbs that you buy when combining with flash are 5600 K. That is the color of daylight and flashes are corrected to shoot at that. If you keep your color of light the same, you can use the white balance to compensate. That is why you can see amazing shoots done with cheepo halogen shop lights from your local hardware store.

Does anybody use these? Any opinions?

I bought a few (80 watts)to take some food shots a few weeks back to test how they caught the wild colors of fruit sauces and they seemed to do a fine job.

(I apologize for the bad Photoshoping)
