OK, I know this is not a very good photo as it is the lowest score I have received in a challenge. The background is crappy and the glitter looks like sh**. All the comments I received stated the photo is out of focus. My question is why is the image out of focus. My view says the figurene (bird) is in focus.
Am I missing something?

i'd have to ask what intrigues you about this photo.

it's possible the post processing makes it seem out of focus.

My eyes seem to divert to the background, which looks grainy/blurry for some reason. As a result, when my eyes move to the figurine, the figurine looks blurry because my eyes seem to believe that the background is of the same texture as the figurine, that is, until my eyes adjust to the difference. (if that makes sense)

I believe the background should be a pure white and that would eliminate the comments about blurriness. I could be wrong of course. :)

The background looks out of focus and the pattern on the bird is soft and so it looks out of focus. The over all effect is that the whole thing looks out of focus.

The focus is very soft. As already stated this could be due to post processing.

There's so much sharpening it looks LESS sharp. The halos do it.

My guess as to why it's out of focus is that the specular highlights and very little contrast of the overall image confused the AF, if that's what you used. If you used manual focus, then I would say you mis-adjusted it. Also, was this a macro shot within the macro focus range?

Ok I guess I am starting to see the picture. to much sharping on the figurine (thanks nfessel) and yes I would have liked a whiter white on the background.
For whatever reason...a beginner I guess I tend to over process everything I download onto the computer. With time I hope to develop a better eye for processing...and then watch out a** kicking in the challenges. lol

Really, thanks everyone for your input I need all the help I can get.
