It has been many weeks since I could pay attention to DPC. I'm back! As many of you know I am semi-retired. Lately it has been more semi- and less retired, but (and this is the good part) I was able to work in a 10 day vacation to Hawaii a couple of weeks ago. You may know from my profile that I am a scuba diver, and the diving was GREAT! But also being a photographer, I couldn't resist taking my camera. Here are some photos you might like. As always, I welcome your comment and critique.

The above taken from the summit of Haleakala.

The above taken of a storm against the hills on West Maui, near Kaanapali.

The above taken of the rain forest in central Maui.

Hawaii is a beautiful place. I hope you can all enjoy it at least once in your life. Time spent there is NOT deducted from your natural life span.

Edit: For Spacing

I saw a bit of Dr Phil today...this family was on there for spending too much money...they had a 3 week timeshare bought in HI, $80,000.

Perhaps the time spent there does not come off your lifespan, but the money spent there takes time to earn, and tie spent earning money is generally time that coule be better spent in other pursuits.

Don't get me started on timeshares!

Regarding your other comment ... for those with time, it's often money they aspire to. And for those with money, it's often time they aspire to have more of. As with all things, balance is important. Work to live? Live to work? Or "all things in moderation," as an Epicurian might say.

I had a chance to visit there back in the late 80s. My cousin is an air traffic controller in the navy. She was stationed there for 3 years...my only cost would have been the air fare...free room and board. Coulda visited Bermuda for the same deal...now she is about to get out after 20 years, and where is she? The Nevada desert!

I didn't travel much growing up, but my wife is part wanderer so I have gotten to see some of this large country. I don't want to ever hear about us running our of land!

We're starting to talk about this year's vacation...west or south? (we drive and from Pittsburgh PA). Open to ideas...
