Went out Saturday morning to test out my new Panasonic DMC-FZ20.
After Changing from a Olympus C-720, For more Zoom, along with HAving a manual Focus and hopefully better low light ability.
I've played around with the camera some at home but this weekend took it along with me on a 5 mile trek along a local creek on a cool overcast day.
Well my unfamiliarity with the camera and the Wish for Manual focus bite me in the @$$. After going half Way and taking to many photos to count did i realize i did not have the manual focus turned on till i accidentally turned the focus ring.
After SOme strong disbelief and the restraint of not jumping in the Cool water to help BLow off the steam, I switched modes and took some pictures during the trek home still shaking my head with each Shot I took.
Here are a few shots if you care to view:
PHOTOS
Hopefully this weekend will have better results.

Those look pretty good to me Thomas. I guess it was a cloudy, or overcast, day; the snow in Sitting on the Shoreline is a little over exposed; 5 & 6 are very sharp; Side of Barn would be my fav.
Why are you using manual focus instead of AF?
BTW, Welcome to dpc.

I just got my FZ15 and have caught myself a few times with some of the settings. I almost wish the panasonics would default to a standard setting when turning them on and off, instead of holding your last setting. But half the fun is figuring it all out. Don't worry you'll have plenty of more hikes to grab great pictures BOTH coming and going...and I'm sure you'll have more then a few occasions where jumping into the water seems like a good plan. =) (As will we all) |

I like pulling my battery out before going out to make sure I have a SD card in there, thus resetting all to there default. |

Auto focus is preferred and used probably 98% of the time.
Exceptions would be something like shooting threw a window where AF gets tricked, also but not yet tried with the new camera. I take a lot of photos at the races from a fixed position to relatively the same position on the track, with my old c-720 The car would be long past before it would ever focus and pre-focusing and holding the button is no fun either. |

IMHO, FZ20 has excellent MF system, you're going to enjoy that feature the next time you shoot at the races.

It's called Buck Fever, we all get it. Give us a new lens, camera, lens wipe, whatever and for a few moments..or more.. brains take a vacation and we fill our camera full of kaka. Thankfully it passes...for me it's when I get back to enjoy the fruit of my new (insert trinket/treasure name here) that I realize my day was a hard lesson in "Pay Attention 101". I keep having to repeat that course. Nice pics however.. barn is outstanding. |

Thanks for sharing moosetrax (my FZ20 arrived a few days ago and just started trying it out. So far very happy).
When you get some race pics with the FZ20 let me know - would like to see how they turn out. |
