I know this is addressed to probably a small audience but I'm thinking of getting a Tamron 1.4x Pro to use with my D-70 and a Tamron 200-500mm 5-6.3. It says for use with 90mm and longer lenses with a 2.8 or larger aperture. I know that it will likely not autofocus (except maybe in very good light) but will I have any other issues?

Better yet, has anyone used this combination?

edit: whoops. I have to run out for an hour or so. BRB to check for responses.

Shot with the 1.4 and the Sigma @500mm
I have the Tamron 1.4 TC non pro. Putting it on a long zoom adds to the seek time with the Bigma or the Canon 75-300is, but they both auto focus with it on, no reason why the white one should have more issues. What are the advantages that the "pro" is supposed to give that doubles the price for the unit?

For those interested I have now added the Tamron 1.4x telecoverter to my lens collection. I went out yesterday for the first time to try it with my Tamron 200-500mm F5-6.3.

The day was rain, overcast and some broken sun. Focus is pretty soft with this setup but it does improve as light improves. AF hunts at low light but does work in all conditions tested so far. It was easier however to use MF in low light. A heavy duty tripod is going to be a must to get decent shots.

These are a few of the better shots from the day. Many the shutter was just to slow becasue of rain and low light or had bad noise becasue I bumped the ISO to 1000-1600. These are all with 200 and 400 ISO and have been run through RAW conversion, cropped and downsized.

Overall I'm happy considering the money spent, about $1,000 vs the $6,000 of so I would have to spend on the Nikon 200-400 VR and Nikon 1.4x. I'll just have to be patient for good light and use a tripod or brace well with my monopod.
