10. My Canon works fine, except for misfiling some images in the wrong folder.

is the 20d STILL making a new folder every 100 shots?! this is the most frustrating feature with any canon.

get sick of file>new>folder>enter.openmediacard.search *.jpg.ctrlA.rightclickdrag>move
UGH.

This is not a feature on all Canons.

that it exists on any canon is still amazing to me.

It wasn't a big deal for me when I had my Rebel. You just check all folders when downloading and format when you finnish. The 1D Mark II and the 1Ds don't create extra folders. I don't know if the 350D will do this or not.

All non-1D Canon models currently in production do it, no reason to think the XT will do otherwise. I agree it's a hassle and unnecessary, but unless someone needs a dSLR right now and/or has an investment in Nikon lenses and accessories, overlooking the Rebel XT/350D as an alternative would be crazy as it really represents the new class leader in entry-level dSLRs and the best bang for the buck.

Yep, I have been very pleased with mine. I would recommend it, if it is in your price range.

I found some really great sites online, I am not really sure if they are to good to be true or not but I found one site selling it for $505.00

//www.usaphotonation.com/products.asp?product_id=10802

Not to sure about this site, but I am looking into it :-D

Probably too good to be true. They have a pretty poor rating

watch out on those low price, they stripped the camera package to the bone. by the time you added back what they took away from the Nikon package it will be more expensive.

The D70 is a beautiful camera, and it works great. I've had mine since June of last year. Recently I added a Sigma 105 macro lens and now it's even better! I've never owned a Canon, so I can't truly compare, but I like Nikon, have for a long time, and the D70 is a beauty.

To be honest with u...U need to ask yourself what u want to use the camera for first, if u want it for either a hobby or maybe make some cash with it, and then there is the learning curve, if you know little about an SLR(just film) like I did, the go with the Canon because they are easy to use, but if yu want to go throught the kocks off the learning curve of the D70 do it cause it worth it.

But always remember that a picture is only as good as the person taking it, you can take any camera and make it take stellar photos, so if i were you I would stick to the cameras that have high ratings then just pick one spur of the moment, and spend as much time shoting with it untill u become GOD like with it.

The Canon and Nikon are basically the same. If you have an investment in lens, go with that camera. Otherwise, it's just a matter of price range.
I've had my D70 for almost a year and love it. My friend has a 300D and loves it. I'd rank them like this:
300D - Cheap!
D70 - Shoots a little faster (good rebates now)
350D - 8 MP, shoots faster than D70

Resolution generally isn't that important (between 6MP and 8MP). If you chose the canon would you buy the 350D, or 300D + some glass?. Same with the D70.

If you have friends that shoot buy the same as them; then you can borrow thier lenses :-)

Since you mentioned budget and babysitting income, try for a Canon Rebel 300 (EOS300D). Wait a month, and then check prices. The 350 is due out this month, and the 300 will be cheaper, and MANY used ones will show up on ebay etc.

The lens bit..almost any nikon lens will work on the D70. For the Canon you need EOS lenses, they started making them in 1985 or so. The older Canon lenses will not work on a rebel.

You can do a lot with the kit lens, a canon 50mm 1.8 ($70) and you can get a cheap 70-200 or 300 for $150. You can get 512Mb CF cards after rebate for $30-35, and on the Rebel one will hold 140 JPG pics.

The D70 is a great camera, a bit better in some ways than the 300, but it is more money. The 350 will be a bit better than the D70 in some ways, and about the same price.

You won't really go wrong either way, but if cost is critical, the 300 is the cheapest way.

Hello everyone. I am looking at buying the Nikon D70 camera so I was just wondering, does anyone have this camera? What do you think of it? Would you recomend it?

Thanks bunches

The advice I give to everyone looking is 2 things. 1st look at photos that you like and note what equipment was used to take those photos (both bodies and lenses). Get at least 30-50 shots that truly move you (monthly photo magazines are a good source). 2. after you have your list of equipment used to capture the images that you like, then go to a local shop and handle them. The comfort factor cannot be overlooked. AFTER these 2 things are complete, evaluate your budget and start building your tool box.

Best of luck.

For me, Many years ago when I first was analyzing what photos I liked the most, Nikon equipment kept re-curring. After handling the Canon. Minolta, and Nikon bodies, I settled for the Nikon. The Minolta slr bodies actually had better ergonomics in my hand, but I did not care for the image cards required back then. After collecting a few Nikkors and deciding to go Digital, then Nikon was a logical choice as some glass was already acquired. In your case, the book is open, so select the equipment that others are using to make the kinds of photos that you really like. Then go handle it. You'll know what fits.

I think you can take equally amazing photographs with all the cameras in contention. The 300D,350D, D70 and 20D are all great cameras and in the rights hands all will do great things.

I bought the D70 because I've always heard great things about Nikon and the fact that they make their own glass and the 300D felt like a toy in my hands....not that it is, mind you. I liked the feel of the D70 and it's operation. The kit lens with the D70 felt better as well and from what I've read it's a better kit lens. I absolutely love my camera and Nikon lenses.

But ignore all the "nickle and dime" stuff. They are ALL very good and I'd suggest that you hold each one in your hands and see which fits best...that and your budget.

You'll be more than happy with any one of them.
