Any thoughts on GW Bush's warning to Syria today?

"The subject that is most on my mind right now is getting Syria out of Lebanon, and I don't mean just the troops out of Lebanon, I mean all of them out of Lebanon, particularly the secret service out of Lebanon - the intelligence services."

"This is non-negotiable. It is time to get out... I think we've got a good chance to achieve that objective and to make sure that the May elections [in Lebanon] are fair. I don't think you can have fair elections with Syrian troops there."

When asked if there was a threat of military action if Syria did not comply, Mr Bush said: "My last choice is military."

That last statement sounds similar to what Bush said on Feb 20, 2003: "Military action against Iraq is America's last option"

So any ideas on what happens if Syria doesn't pull out all of it's troops to Mr. Bush's liking? Do we get pulled into another war? Or is this just "tough talk"?

Just Curious...

Not a whole lot can be done unless the draft is restarted. There is simply not enough man power to invade anyone else. Iraq is still nowhere near secure. The deadliest car bomb yet happened this week, over 100 dead in 1 strike. We also just surpassed 1500 dead American soldiers.

I think it will depend on how many troops other nations are willing to commit to a Syrian conflict over Lebanon. Right now, it looks as though the Brits are in and Israel too. France may be in as well. As MM mentioned above, the US is deficient in numbers due to the necessity of keeping troops in Iraq, and it doesn't look as the US will be able to leave any time soon, especially if the new government there wants to be friends with Iran (since now Iraq will be Shiite lead). I saw broadcast a few days ago a debate on Fox News about is a conscription needed in the US now. It appears that things are about to get heated up and very soon.

Lebanon's Syrian-backed Cabinet resigned in response to mounting public pressure. Now, Lebanese Muslims, Christians and Druze are openly protesting every day for a free and democratic country.

Uh oh, is the Bush doctrine actually starting to take hold?

Well, if youâre one of those more progressive thinkers like former Clinton aide Nancy Soderberg, âThere's always hope that this might not workâ.
