Does a Fujifilm Finepix 5100 have external flash capabilities? I would much rather use my external flah than an internal flash, but if I can't, so be it, I suppose. I just bought an external for my 35mm Nikon N75, but would like to use it for my Digital as well. If I can use an external flash on it, what accessories do I need to do so?

If you have a hot shoe it will work (turn on external flash in the menus).
If not, then can use any external flash as an optical slave (ti will fire when teh built in flash fires). An all cases you will have to work in Manual Mode on the camera as the meter will not be aware of the extra flash and connot figure an exposure.

Doesn't look like your camera has a hotshoe inless you have a special jack insert on your camera. So a slave is the only way to go.

I have the S5100. It does not come with a hotshoe, but if you buy a flash slave you can trigger an external flash(es) using the onboard camera flash. It's what I do when I use my second flash. Just make sure you try some test shots where you're going to shoot. I've found that the slave doesn't work very good in some places. I've purchased a longer synch cord (30ft). That way I can secure the slave directly in front of my onboard flash (which then blocks the flash from showing in the picture) and the only flash that you see is the external one. Works great. I'm still messing with it though. |
