Here's something I tried for the surrealism challenge...but it just didnt' work like I had hoped...not sure why...it's just not quite there. (Don't worry...I'm going to go a completely different direction for my entry.)
Any comments on how this could be better?

How about a "bow tie"? Is that really your camera? |

Hmmmm....that's not a bad idea....would give it a little more whimsy....
Yeah...that Brownie's part of my collection...got it at an antique shop a while back.

Who can identify this quote, which sprang immediately to mind when reading zagman's post:
I said "be careful, his bowtie is really a camera"

Great find, that 'Brownie". I saw your self protrait, good one. You look like some actor, that I can't place at the moment, maybe a "sane", John Belushi, if your raise your eye browse, like the "Rock" does. |

That's clever! I think it would work better if the camera were up a little higher with some kind of support, but not enough where you could see the support. As it is, it looks like it is just resting on the collar, and it's scrunching the collar down making it look a bit unreal. |

Isn't that Simon and Garfunkel? Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the song, something about America I think. |

Yes you can name that song in one word. "America" by Simon and Garfunkel. Here are the lyrics.
"Let us be lovers we'll marry our fortunes together
I've got some real estate here in my bag
So we bought a pack of cigarettes and Mrs. Wagner's pies
And we walked off to look for America
Cathy I said as we boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburgh
Michigan seems like a dream to me now
It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw
I've gone to look for America
Laughing on the bus playing games with the faces
She said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy
I said be careful his "bowtie is really a camera"
Toss me a cigaret I think there's one in the raincoat
We smoked the last one an hour ago
So I looked at the scenary she read her magazine
And the moon rose over an open field
Cathy I'm lost I said though I knew she was sleeping
I'm empty and aching and I don't know why
Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike
They've all come to look for America
All come to look for America"
It's really a love song about runaway teenagers.

A view of the Pond At Rancho San Antonio.
Actually, just a regular snapshot subjected to the most simple disorientation. Perhaps this is why surrealist painters hung so many objects in the sky. |
