I thought I would like to share one of the comments I have receivedâ€Â¦.
you should have cropped out the background! stupid head!
Now I am kind of new to this and not sure how to take this comment. I can listen to constructive criticisms just as well as the next guy, but this seems a little over the topâ€Â¦Ă˘€Â¦
On the other side of the coin 10 of the 12 comments I have are positive, like
Beautiful shot and background!
A difficult exposure. Excellent work.

Kind of like giving out the grand comment of "No highlights..." ? Hmmm, where have I heard that before? Guess the one you rec'd is a bit more crass. ;^)

Only you can truly judge your own work.
What others are saying is what they think of it. What people leave on your image is a 'comment' - that's what it is. They are not teaching you to become a better photographer in every case. It's just their thoughts. |

if it really gets to you, go to community | who's online and find a site council member. pm them that you would like for someone to just take a look at the comment, and if they think it's over the top, let them deal with reigning in the offender.

You'd probably know if you weren't such a stupid head! ;)
Just kidding of course...
I bet the person who left the comment was trying to be funny/friendly.. I hope anyway...

Well, I was being a stupid head on my Passing Time challenge...but even at that I usually only let my wife call me that. |

If I am not mistaken They can remove such comments. I think this is somewhere in the users agreement. I will look.

Some people say those things. They are not aggressive or mean. They don't mean to wind you up. It's how they interact. I don't see anyting wrong with that. You just have to understand that people are different.
If I was the one to recieve that comment, I would have found it funny. |

Maybe we should impose a "report comment" button.

I think there is a such thing as reporting this to SC or the Administrators. Can't find it though.

I will laugh it off after a beer, but it is new to me to not only get, but give constructive criticism. As glad2badad pointed out I could spent a more quality time working on my comments as well. |

I read some of the comments she left for other people. I don't think what she put in your comment was mean spirited. She could have called you "punkin head". I think it was probably meant in funny way. PM her and ask her (nicely) about it.
I don't think SC has any need to intervene on this. The girl is new to this site so lets put the rope back in the barn.

the contents of this thread aren't the issue, and as xion has said, you don't have to take it seriously,
but if you feel that you have received a comment that is out of line, you should let the SC know. they recently revoked the account of someone who was doing nothing but littering images with extremely out-of-bound, destructive comments... |

That is one of the down sides to the INTERNET, trying to be funny and it doesn't come across as so. The person was probably trying to be funny or even thought they knew who the photographer was and thought it would be funny saying that to them and would never say it to anyone else.

"Stupid Head"
Well now thems sounds likes fighting words to me!
Remember, your commentors do not know who you are during the challenge. It may be an immature comment, or, as someone has mentioned, just a lovely term of endearment.....
It is disappointing to get condescending comments. But, in my opinion, that's part of "mixing it up" at DPC. We learn to take 'em, and we learn to give 'em. All of which helps us "see" something a little better.
History Lesson:
You may from time to time see the expression "WWIT?!" For anyone who's newer than the selective desaturation challenge from last spring, it means WHAT WAS I THINKING?! It was spawned by a disgruntled member who left severe comments on a ton of photos all with the addition of "What were you thinking?" He later changed his comments into constructive ones and is no longer around due to his vehement perturbations. AND now? When I look at that photo I entered...What Was I Thinking?!
Live and learn....(chin up, man!) |

Tell me about it. I just narrowly escaped the lynch mob on more then a few occasions.

I have enough trouble making sure people understand my sense of humor when I'm standing 2 feet in front of them, never mind over the internet....
