Want to Shoot Animals in Los Angeles This Weekend?

Hey all you photogs in So. California area, anyone interested in shooting some animal pics this weekend of 3/5 Saturday or 3/6 Sunday?

I'm not sure where a good spot is, but I'd prefer by the beach to shoot birds and seals. If not some large captive animals at the LA zoo will do as well but it costs ten bucks to get in.

I'm open to suggestions on locations and time if anyone is interested.

Sorry Tom, I'll be at the beach but i'll be doing my field report for class :(. what about the 3/19 or 20? kinda short notice.. hope you have fun if you go this weekend.

I'm itching to do some hand held tele shots with my Sigma. I took some shots at the beach in Long Beach, but need a higher concentration of animals. So I'll even go again in two weeks if people want. I need suggestions of areas if anyone knows a good spot though.

I'm game for two weeks from now either the 19 or 20. So whatever you guys come up with I'll go. Don't really know of any spots sorry Tom.

by the looks of the title of the thread sounds like we're gonna go hunting for strays in LA >.< hmmm wonder thats why we haven't got many post???

I've decided to go the the Redondo Beach Pier Saturday Morning, barring Rain/poor light, to shoot seals and birds. Let me know if anyone wants to join me.

I'm a naturalist for the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium's whale watch program. I'm booked on the 10 AM boat out of Redondo Sportfishing.

I was down there last week too and saw that there were a LOT of sea lions all the way up the channel - most of them in rafts doing "thermo regulation" where they throw a flipper out to warm or cool themselves. It's the same channel where the pier that has Polly's on the Pier restaurant.

Lots of birds, but for some reason very few pelicans. The light was terrible that weekend, very overcast, but I got a few good shots of dolphins once we got out on the water.

The whale watch boat is $18 per person (so not a great deal compared to the zoo on a per animal basis). Maybe I'll see you there, I wear a red jacket with a whale watch patch on it. I usually wander around the pier area before the boat leaves to catch some photos.

Thanks for the info on Redondo Beach Pier. I plan on being there on Saturday morning unless the light is bad, then sunday. I'll look out for you when I'm there.

I wish I could Tom! Saturday I have two shops (Mystery Shopping) and also lunch with a friend. Sunday will be spent with my family this weekend. I apologize.

I will see you next weekend though, to go to the Antelope Valley. Hopefully we'll see some wildlife up that way too!
