Thanks to everyone who helped me in this thread. I received a call today and 2 out of 3 of my images were chosen for the exhibit!

The two chosen are:
#2.....#3

The one that did not make it is:
#4 the non-muddy version. :-)

I'm very excited that I was accepted at all. They will have an opening reception this Friday and will award prizes on Saturday. The images will remain in the gallery, on display, until April. Yay!

Please keep your fingers crossed for me. While winning isn't everything, it sure would be the icing on the cake! ;-) I will post in this thread on Saturday with another update.

Thank you, again, to everyone who helped me choose the images!

Jen

Edit: Waterfall was non-muddy version

Congratulations and good luck! Enjoy the opening reception -(you may want to bring some business cards just in case someone asks for one).

The photos are great and will show very well:)

That's great, congrats.

Maybe you can have a family member take some snaps at the exhibit so we can enjoy the show with you and see your work in context (and with your ribbon/prizes too, thinking positively!)

Thank you!

cweed/Wally, the exhibit is at the State of the Art Gallery on State Street in Ithaca, NY. Whereabouts are you?

Congrats!!! I loved those two the best...

The comment about about business cards is right on.. I like to make cards from my images that are displayed in a show and give them out..I think it makes it more memorable

I love your picks!!! For once, I was in the same mindframe as others!! I just love your card, too. I am doing the happy dance for you tonight!!

Wonderful! Have a good time and let us know how things turn out. Photos of your exhibit would be a plus!

Thanks everyone!

Well, I didn't win any awards at the exhibit. (Not that I thought I would!) Awards seemed to go to the more artsy or Photoshopped images. I was surprised that some clearly Photoshopped pieces won. One in particular was a face with a pair of eyes from another photograph layed overtop the original face. It looked okay but I just thought it was more Photoshop than photography...but we all know that debate. ;-) There was some really outstanding photography there; some I thought for sure would at least place. For some reason the judge didn't see it that way. You never can tell what will interest them. I'm really happy I am at least part of the exhibit. It will be ongoing through March so it will give me a bit more exposure and I still have a shot at selling something. It's a good experience.

Wow, I think it is such an honor to have 2/3 of your pieces featured in a gallery! That is no small feat, congratulations!! I never pay much attention to who wins these things, because it is all so subjective. You'd hardly ever get the same results if you switched judges around, and so that just doesn't make sense to me. Anyway, congratulations - your photography is absolutely breathtaking and your talent is very obvious!!

Thank you! You're absolutely right. 10 judges would all have different picks. For me, it's about pushing myself, trying new things, and meeting new people. As cool as it would be to be 'officially' recognized, it's certainly not everything. Everyone here is so supportive that you don't need a gold star to feel good.
