Ansel Adams was a master of fitting a lot of dynamic range in a scene onto the very limited dynamic range of print paper. Print paper has maybe 5 stops of range, the monitors that we view photos on have between 8 to 9 stops of dynamic range. This means that a lot of Adams techniques for fitting the photo onto paper will not translate well to making a photo that will be viewed and judged on a computer screen.

This is not to say that you can not shoot in his style, but trying to shoehorn his technique into photos view on a screen will likely lead to frustration.

So what I would say is follow his broader ideas, try to get the most out of the range the monitor allows, try and get the photos as sharp and clear as possible given the size limitation, but donĂ¢€™t treat the computer monitor as a piece of photographic paper.
