Before I changed my submission to this:
I had this as my challenge submission:
I was going to call it "Five Million Years and a Pane of Glass", but I figured the picture depended too heavily upon the title to shoehorn it into the challenge so I changed to the first for a much more obvious challenge tie-in. I liked this second photo and it was a heck of time to get it as the ape exhibit is rather dark with reflective plexi-glass. Do you think it would have done better? Critiques are welcome. Thanks. |

Albeit this is a good photo,,, I do believe you were better served by the photo you submitted, simply because the separation was evident. In this instance, I for one cannot see the separation factor and as such would have given it a lower score.
Just my 2 cents worth...

I think if the kid was looking at the animal on the bottom left it would've been a more appealing shot.
You might've received a higher score for the chimp shot even though it was shoehorned in because the image is rather well shot. |

Yeah, there is an off camera gorilla, an aunt of the infant, on a platform above that the boy is looking at. Right after I took that picture the infant just sort collapsed face forward and took a nap. It was funny because he performed a sort of nose dive into the hay.
Here's another (not great) picture of the infant with its aunt:
This experience has me saving up for a 50mm with a wider apeture so I can take those low light shots. I had to use such a slow shutter speed that a number of shots were blurry. Try telling a gorilla or chimp to hold still sometime and see how well it works. |
