I m looking to purchase some umbrella clamps. So I can attach them to my light stand. What do you like to use, are there some better than others?

I am no help, but need this answered too...i got an umbrella today and have a hotshoe flash on a tripod...i was thinking velcro or rubber bands...I have not looked at how it is done on 'real' lights.

I got a couple of units off ebay, which I saw Jacko was using.
They screw on top of a standard studio light stand, rather than a tripod, and have an umbrella clamp on them, and then allow you to attach a hotshoe style unit on top.
I've posted about them here before. I'll go and see if I can find my original post. I am pretty sure that, although I got mine off ebay, B&H also sell them.
....
Ok, back, that was easy :)
Check this out:
That's from the B&H web site. I have essentially that unit, just a different make, and it is an invaluable piece of kit.
Mine don't have that lever, and have a screw on the top, exactly the same as you find on a standard tripod.

Jacko had one on his pbase site but I just found the link to it and it no longer works :(
No pics, but I can probably explain. However, it will be for my model, but I am sure will easily translate to that one.
1) Take a standard studio lighting stand. These have an odd top to them, and the clamp simply slots on the top, tighten the bottom whatsit to fix the clamp to the stand.
2) Flash unit simply fixes on the top. You'll either have a thread, like on a tripod, and you can just screw the flash on there, or else a hot shoe style fitting, as in the photo above.
3) The shaft for the umbrella then goes through the hole in the middle, and the handle, I am guessing, tightens to hold that in place.
Ok, just realised those destructions are flipping hopeless *laugh*
When I get home tonight I'll put one of mine together (takes all of 3 secs) and take a photo of it for you.

Ok, I was wrong, mine has the hotshoe type fixing at the top, not a screw. However, there is a screw thread at the top of the studio stand. Some stands don;t have that, but it is NOT required for attaching the clamp to anyway.
Hopefully this pic with help make sense of it all :)
