After my best of 2004 score I decided to give myself a present and couldn't decide between the 580EX or the 1.4 converter. Would you believe I flipped a coin and it landed on its edge????
Friday evening (GMT) I ordered both of them and a hood for my 100mm 2.8 macro. Saturday Morning they were dispatched from Hong Kong. I got home from work today and they had arrived!, the Royal Mail can't deliver from London that fast!
Quick as a flash (sorry) I charged my batteries up while I tried the converter, its dark here so no joy indoors (onboard flash just doesnt work with a lens that long). I need to read the rather big manual but even on auto I can see a 100% improvement. This shot was taken square with my fish tank and whilst not great I'm sure its going to improve my fishie pics :)
Now all I need is a sherpa to cayy my kit around.

Was! am thinking of selling one of the Billingham bags, buying a stanley knife, one of those trolley suitcases and a block of foam.

580EX or 1.4x converter.....hmmm. I think you made the right choice.
Who do you order from in Hong Kong? Do they have a website?

Lucky you, Paul!! Have fun and do a weightlifting course:))
Just ordered my new toys...28-135mm IS usm, 50mm f1.8, 1Gb CF card and spare battery. Tomorrow gonna complete the order, Sigma 135-400mm APO, RC-1 remote and 420EX flash...though not sure whether to get the 420 or go for Sigma EX500 Super DG.
Any thoughts.

Got them off a guy called Albert. My 100mm f/2.8 Macro came from him via ebay, this time I contacted him direct and asked him for his best price. The 580, 1.4 converter and 100mm hood came to £430 inc shipping.
You guys in the USofA may not think thats such a good deal but its a saving of more than £200 on UK high street prices.
I'll ping him an email to ask if I can put his email addy here and ask if he has a website. In the meantime if you pm me I'll give you his email (maybe I should become his UK agent lol).

I've had great success with the 580EX using NiMH rechargeables. I use the 2500mah capacity cells and they recycle quickly and last a good ling time. I also have a 15-minute recharger for them :-)

Albert just got back to me, he does not have a website as such but does have an ebay shop here. Now, I have no affiliation with him but I'm sure there are many people who are wary about sending potentialy large sums of money to people in far off countries. I'd just like to say his prices are good and service is excellent. One point to remember, as always delivery may be subject to duty. Happy shopping.

I got my remote from Albert, did not come as quickly as yours (paid cheapest postage). But still good transaction.
