I just purchased the Nikon SB 600 for my D70, and two days later the company i ordered it from called me to let me know that the SB 600 and 800 are only good for indoor use, and they recommend the D70 compatible Sigma EF500 Super Flash, it was cheaper and they said it was good for indoor and outdoor use. Is this correct information i recieved? I dont know much about flashes, and i couldnt find much on the net. I did find a review of the SB 800 on outdoorphotographer.com, so that makes me think they gave me bad info. thanks!

...
And you bought this from where?
Yeah. The SB800 is a better flash than the SB600. But my SB600 works just dandy thankyouverymuch.
This is one of those places that calls to confirm isn't it?

I've got a SB-600, never heard of it being only good for indoor use. The advice that you got sounds rather dodgy to me.

What is the name of the company, they are a joke! Do you really think that Nikon would bring out a Speed light is only for indoors!
That company would be making more money out of the other flash even though its cheaper!

wow, thanks for the advice. sounds like they tried to screw me. the company is www.abesofmain.com. i found the SB 800 from them for an awsome price. only $297. almost $100 less than other sites. anyway, maybe they misposted their price, and wanted to try and get out of it? according to the site they have been around for about 30 years. seemed respectable. Anyway, im going to call them, return the Sigma, and get the Nikon. thanks for the help!

Looks like they have some spare less expensive flashes 8and less good ones too) to sell. Don't let them fool you. I bought the S800 and it is a beauty. Iy's just incredible how good it is. Just a shame that I don't know how to work it it properly (not that you need, it is so well bilt and programed that it does everythin for you). It's the perfect match for the D70. How many flashes do you know that goes to 1/500 sec. fast syncro?
By the way if anyone has an e-book (pdf) about lightning I'll be greatfull (or a link)

Stop right there and back away slowly. Any, and I mean ANY time you find that good a deal online you need to stop and ask why. Odds are very, very good that the flash they are showing you is grey market, meaning it will not arrive with the Nikon USA warrenty. It's also very common for companies to pull accessories out of the box. In this case pulling the filter set and Omni bounce would get you to that price easy.
Abe's is pretty agressive when it comes to their sales technique. They also have a really bad rating on resellerratings.com.
Expect problems returning the flash.
Clara- if it sounds too good to be true...

shoot. yeah i knew to be aware of the price, but it has a 4 star rating and is a trusted site on www.shopping.com which is reputable. thats where i found their price. well, i may have to start in with the threating and all. the webpage states it includes all contents, including the $25 nikon rebate and its warranty. here is the link //www.abesofmaine.com/viewproduct.asp?id=nksb800&l=Dealtime
anyway, im in the process of trying to exchange for the SB. we will see how they react.
