My attempt at a decent landscape shot of a lake.

Lake Photo

little post-processing done, other than levels, crop, little bit of dodging, and resize

i'm especially interested in what you all think of the compostion...good? bad?

Also, feel free to rate/leave comments at the website

Thanks

I don't know if I really like the reflection in the water but the mountains are gorgeous. Seems like an excellent location for the "Ansel Adams" challenge.

I'm no expert, but it seems theres not enough of the sky in the photo. I like the mountains and the color.

after taking the picture, looking back, i have thought the same thing. I wish I would have composed better in-camera, but did what i could with it.

Hi Justin. Nice photo. It looks like a great location. If you have access to it again, you might want to look at it during different times of the day to see if there is a more dramatic time. The reflection falls right in the middle. You might try moving it to one side.

Did you zoom in at all? For a landscape, I'd look for a wider feeling. The sky has already been mentioned, but to me, the sides also feel cut off. You get just a hint on the right that there might be a curve in the shoreline, but it seems to feel truncated - like I want to know how the shoreline resolves.

Personally, I like the reflection (though, going back, it also seems a bit cut off) and don't really mind it centered. Maybe if there was some more sky, having it horizontally centered (i.e. left to right), but vertically having it a bit lower in the frame, along the bottom third line.

I don't think i would have access to it again any time soon, at least not from the same vantage point - the photo was taken out of a plane. The reflection is actually from the sun reflecting off of the wing of the plane.

Thanks Lentil - it's at a local lake here in Utah, called Utah Lake ;)
