In this case anyway. :-)

Thanks to those in this thread who 'pressured' me into buying the Canon 50mm f/1.8! It came this morning and here are a few pics. They are nothing great, but I haven't left the house yet. I did not adjust the colors or sharpness in these. They have been resized only.

I already love the shallow dof and can't wait to really put this to use.

Thanks guys.

Jen

edit: For those interested, the statues are Hummels, that's my pooch, and the pigs were purchased in the Caribean and are carved from a coconut.

I don't think it was peer preasure unless you took it that way. More like good advice.

I think we should stick with Peer Pressure. That way we can get her to by more glass, and send it to us..... :-)

Congrats on the new glass Jen, you'll really like what you get out of it..

Cheers, Me.

I bought the 50 F1.8 a few months ago, and have barely used my kit lens since. Looking back on it, I wonder if I should have bought the F1.4 for its construction, and 2/3rds of a stop faster. For $70, it's unbeatable.

nsbca7: Yes, good advice. I was only joking when I wrote peer pressure.

Chris: lol, ain't gonna happen! :-P I can't wait to go out and shoot real stuff with it. I'm sure it will meet my expectations.

Evan: Thanks.

Andrew: I'm glad you are enjoying your lens. The f1.4 is considerably more expensive, though. Like you said, for $70 you can't go wrong.

somewhere i remember hearing talk which ones more expensive the f/1.8 or f 1.4?

The F1.4 is more exspensive.

Correct - because it is the faster lens. The smaller the f-number, the faster the lens and the more expensive...in most situations. The 50mm f/1.8 is sort of an oddity at $70/$75.

And I suspect it's a 'loss leader'. ie: They sell them at a loss to get you hooked on better quality glass... The differential (8x) between the 1.4 and 1.8 will I suspect be partially due to marketing decisions, not just the technology used to make the lens..

Cheers, Me.

Works for me...now I want the 70-200mm 4L cause once you take a sharp picture out of the cam and don't have to work it up...your hooked.

Butterflysis: I love the minitures...awesome shots especially the first one.
