I work for a billboard company, and we have a nice website with templates and stuff, so if any of you want to play around a little further with this challenge or explore the world of billboards, go to Clear Channel Outdoor.

More specifically, a good billboard template to use for the aspect ratio suggested in this challenge is the Premiere Panel template. Just click on "RESOURCES" find the link for "DESIGN TEMPLATES" and then find the "PREMIERE PANEL" one. You can download a PDF and place your image in there.

ALSO, if you want to see what your photo would look like in an actual street scene on an actual billboard, we have a cool and easy-to-use program for that. Also in "RESOURCES" in the right side of the box is something called "MOVI PRESENTER." The read me file gives instructions on how to use the program, but it's really easy!

Anyway, not trying to promote my company, but I thought it might be fun to play around a little more! I love this challenge and can't wait to see the results!

PS Oh, and one more suggestion about graphics in Outdoor: they typically need to be clear, simple, well-defined in the constraints of the live copy area, and easily understood in under 7 seconds. So just something to keep in mind. :)

Way cool. We shoulda done the challenge specifying the use of this tool, and allowing anything it does as legal :-)

Sorry, I'm confused....... are we allowed to add text on the submission?

Cool web site, thanks. I'll check it out in detail. I actually had one of my photos taken back in the 90's used as a billboard for Jungle Larry's Zoo Park. It was a row of tigers sitting up with their front paws up in the air.

NO text allowed, nope, none, nada, zilch; the title should be the "text" of the billboard, basically.

We have the mobile Panel trucks around here. I just started seeing them a few months ago. We also have the full bus covering and flipping billboards with 3 ads on one side. Advertising must have become a big business.

I would say NO text added until you see this and the rules addition says we can.

The only text you can add is your title. You cannot add text within the picture or border. I say this because I have not seen any rule additions.

would it be "copying artwork" to just take a straight image of a billboard?
Artwork. Literal photographic representations of existing works of art (including your own) are not considered acceptable submissions, however creative depictions or interpretations are permissible. This includes, but is not limited to paintings, sculptures, photographs, drawings, computer artwork, computer monitors, and televisions. A literal representation is one which is composed in such a way as to compel the voter to rate only the work of art represented and not the artistic decisions made by the photographer (e.g., lighting, composition, background elements, etc).

@annasense Cool website!

I think it has to have another element involved. If you could take a picture of a billboard with a worker putting or taking down an existing sign then maybe. With the Aspect ratio they have laid out for us as a suggestion leads me to believe a photograph taken and named for a billboard.

So it requires other elements besides just the billboard (just trying to clarify), which would make sense, because it gives the billboard context to location, lighting, whatnot.

The challenge isn't to find a billboard and photograph it Zoom.. it's to create a photograph that would be at home *as* a billboard..

Yes, it would be copying artwork. It also would not meet the challenge, unless you were creating a billboard to sell billboards. Reread the challenge description, and you'll see the object not to take a photo of a billboard, but to take a photo you would expect to see on a billboard.
