I was experimenting today for the "light on white" competition, and ended up throwing everything I could find against my white background (well not everything...haha) But I kinda liked this one (and it's nothing like my expected submission, totally different subject, lol) I've had some comments before about shadows in my photos, but I kinda like the way this one looks. Any thoughts?
I'm a newbie with this whole photography thing, and anything you can point out will help me to take better pics next time around.
Thanks in advance

I like the composition, and I don't mind the shadow (especially since you can see a little color coming through...I'd like to see even more of that)....the only thing that bothers me is the angle...I'm not crazy about looking down on it from so high....although maybe it's just that I don't like how much whiskey is in it...I'm a fan of either full or empty.....hmmmm....anyone else?

Thanks for the feedback. I've been taking a lot of my photos from above and from the side, I think it adds more interest, but maybe just to me...that's why I ask these questions... Gives me something to try with tomorrows reshoot, when the sun comes out for my no-budget lighting, haha!
About the fullness of the bottle, I do agree, right before I took the photo I joked that we had to finish it off so it would be "lighter" for the competition... great minds think alike, perhaps??

I'm thinking in a way to make a shot like that totally different. I've already thought of whiskey bottles, flowers, or whatever object! They seems just way too obvious to me!
I'll guess i'll go for a totally diff picture! I still gotta think of what LoL! Well........

Now that i'm seeing the image at this size, I can see a few more dog hairs i need to heal out (which I know is not allowed with the challenge, but as I said, this is nothing like my submission.)
My dogs or cats are either getting in the photos physically or just their remnants...the cats eat any flowers I bring home, what next? Will they be hiding the camera on me??

Just make sure they don't eat up ur camera!
My doggies like to chew on my stuff as well! The other day one of them was eating one of my sandals, on top of my pillow! nasty lil' one!

Kind of cool, I'm with the others on the angle...but even moreso the nit picky of DPC may call you on the the cap on this one... watch the hot areas when working with white on white...The cap is not the main subject but by it being so bright (right side) it calls attention to it.

I wonder if you got the light more toward the bottom of the bottle if you could get more of the color in the shadow of the liquid.

Hey deb,
The cap was the first thing that caught my attention too. Its a nice, sharp, well lit photo. As far as voting on dpc it would have done average for those reasons. DOn't get me wrong. I think its a nice shot, but voters like a WOW factor, movement, texture. I am finally learning a bit about how they vote shots in here, and just thought I'd give you some feedback. Its a nice shot. Keep up the good work! B

I like your idea of using objects other than the norm. But I do wonder if the white on the bottle label and cap being more of a true white that the background effect the scoring. Is it just me or does the background have a yellowish hue? that is what is distracting to me. Other than that a nice crisp picture with great focus. |

I personally would like to see a few more shadows - they are real and keep everything from looking like ad art. I am very mcuh the odd man (woman) out on the angle; I like it. But then, most of my portfolio is a bunch of weird angles, so I am prejudiced by my personal taste! lol
