A picture like this could have really benefitted from a polarizer. I like the composition even if it is bleak, as you put it.

Why would I want to polarize it? I have a polarizer, but opted not to use it here.

I would polarize it to remove the reflections from the lakes... Might have looked even better for the lakes to be dark, although I don't know. |

Nah. Tried that. Looked dead, lifeless. IMO the semi-metallic sheen of the water in the bogs is what makes the picture work, to the extent that it works...
