So much for my "out of the box" bridge photo. 349th place. 17th percentile. I don't think the photo was that bad, voters were just looking for traditional bridges. The comments I received were very helpful. Thanks everyone.

I don't think it suffered for beibg "outside of the box" as much as it suffered for being a not-very-interesting image to look at. In particular the centered post & sign make it extremely static, and the tonalities are dull and lifeless; a little work with levels woudl have helped...

People aren't THAT obtuse - this shot doesn't leave anything to the imagination so there's really nothing for people not to get. Yea it has an interesting message and take on the challenge, but overall is poorly executed. .. sorry.

i disagree with the comments so far ... i think this did suffer from being outside the box. if this image was submitted in a "signs" challenge, it would have scored better. it wouldn't have won, but it would have scored better.

lot's of people talk about "outside the box", but it when it comes to meeting the challenge "outside the box" is the same as "outside the top 20" ... and rightfully so in some cases
