5.54 now....I guess all the talk is getting people out to vote - unlike the last US election. |

I mean, almost all of these "snapshots" were taken from a normal eye's perspective and with single source unemotional top lighting or just a FLASH. uhg. I'm depressed and thought I'd be happier as I went through the entries....but alas, it only got worse.
I also appreciate originality...someone shot the water drops on the glass with the peace sign in the background so that it can be seen in all the drops. This has been done many times before! It's cool, but slightly overused IMHO.
I'm sure the next challenge will make me happier....uhg. |
I completely agree with everything you said. By the way, did anyone notice there are two photos with yearbooks and both have leaves in them? Thought that was odd.
Don't be depressed montereykiddo, your comment on my photo made me smile, and i'd feel bad if you were down.

I thought I was capturing the spirit of the 70's, or at least MY 70's, big time with my entry, but as usual it's getting hammered.

I took about thirty shots. There is an "auto pilot" scene with that terrible actress Karen Black that I had in the running for the competetition. She's another classic cheese actress from the 70's.
"The Essence " of cheese...
And to update my position in the competition...
Still disqualified!!! |

I thought i'd give this one a miss as I just missed the 70's, 1980. Well done to all who entered as I found myself voting higher than usual on many images. I will comment on them individually later as I have no time right now. Some really colourful and vivid pictures. I foresee some new highest rated photos coming up.

that's really surprising. I've given out my lowest votes in this challenge so far. It's interesting how two people can see things so differently. I'm really curious to what the end results will be in this challenge. |

This one...
What a movie!!! What's more 70's than Charleton Hestson, George Kennedy, Helen Ready, Linda Blair, Karen Black and the list goes on...tell me?
This film was so clicheed and bad that it single handedly launched ALL the other cheesy movie stuff. Scary Movie, Naked Gun etc.
Note:I just added some peace signs and other things to make these less of a straight representation of another persons art. Though I honestly never considered that movie as being art. Just having fun...

Did you know that Karen Black has been in 93 movies, the most recent release in 2004. Pretty good longevity for a "cheese actress"... ;^)

I just got a comment saying that the lighting colors don't work!
Would you consider it as a reason to vote some1 down? Even if it matches the challenge, and isn't technically wrong? hehe weird!
Well, i think I just got used to receiveng all those nice comments, and then all of a sudden some1 smashes u down heheh! You, that did that comment, don't worry, it's all good! I appreciate u took the time for it!

I started at 4.3 after about 50 votes... so I guess I'm going in the right direction... :-)
On that challenge, like many said, I think the overall score will be relatively low (I expect to finish at aroud 40%) There is some very good pictures but mostly they are just ordinary pictures (like mine).
For the first time, I'm not giving any 10's, I gave one 9 and a few 8s, but I mostly gave 5s. And those that really did not gave me any impressions of the 70's I gave them 4s and if on top of that they were out of focus or bad pictures overall then they get a 3 (I never give 1s)

Considering where I started, this is pretty cool. My target audience was anyone who would find a twist on words amusing. Missed the target big time - too many voters couldn't connect my image to the 70's, found the colors boring, and or thought that I didn't manipulate the subjects enough. And, they weren't even laughing when they commented.
My subject was a Biggie in the 70's; over-working the colors would be unnatural in this case; and artificial posing is tacky, right? So, I should be getting all 7's and 8's for effort, don't you think? (And, not one piece of artwork from another person in the whole shot.)
I think the problem is that most of the submitters are either too young to understand the Essence of the 70's or are old enough to remember that decade, but can't. Can tell you this - Hippies rarely had short, styled hair or a close relationship with soap, water, or a manicurist.
If the voting matched the authenticity of the decade, we would all vote for the most blurred, yukkiest-colored, inane photograph in the lot. The more grainy, the better (and few people back then knew about good composition!)
This has been the goofiest experience - upside down and sideways. Good luck to all. Kathy {: >
