I got a comment on my "Something New" photo mentioning the "Jaggies" on the scissors.

I didnt notice these before but now I do.

I was just wondering how to get rid of these without spot editing, and why they are on this photo, but none others I have taken.

It's usually an unfortunate consequence of re-sampling the image to DPC specs, and loss of data due to JPEG compression. Sharp lines, especially on the diagonal, are usually the most affected elments.

Thanks.
Is there any way you know of to avoid this?

I think that depends greatly on your software. I use Photoshop 6, and RATHER than "Save As" and let Photoshop do its normal JPG compression, I do "Save for Web". This lets you see the original and the compressed JPG at the same time with the ability to adjust compression rate, and other things. I have has pretty good luck in that I can maintain close to 100% accuracy (to the eye) at between 100 and 200K, which is perfect for DPC.

Hey konador, Are you familiar with the director Jean-Pierre Jeunet? Your haircut photo reminds me of a freeze frame for almost any of his films. I got a kick out of it for this reason. If you don't know him already, you should check him out on imdb.

I did some research because I'd forgotten the program name, but I found it. If you're not using photoshop, or if you have a version that doesn't include the "Save for Web" option, SmartSaver Pro does the same thing.

Thanks alot dawn! I'll download the programme now. Also, I have'nt heard of Jeunet, (only film of his I've seen is Alien Resurrection, and didn't really take note of his name) but I'll take a look now.

Hey, you're right! I've seen all Jeunet's films. I was wondering why I liked that photo so much :).

It was a good shot konador.

PS6 "Save As" DOES allow you to change the compression rate, showing you the final file size as you make the adjustment - so you can choose the best compression to make the 150k cut-off
