Ok so, I think I spilled some of a mixed drink on it and now the power button is extremely sticky.

My camera is the Sony 717 so because its so stuck, when i force turn it, it turns the mode dial with it and it sticks too.

What solvent would be best in this situation, and for overall camera cleaning when im not so careful with it?

Not knowing how well the camera is sealed, I would hate to give you advise that could cause more problems. My first thought on soda/drinks that leave a sticky residue is use distilled water only.
My own idea if it were mind, would be to pour just a little distilled water over the area, followed by compressed air (or can) while moving the knob(s) and repeat as necessary. (battery out) Stay away from any chemical-based agents or soaps.

Water is a pretty amazing thing

I don't think I'd mess with it, personally. But I guess if I had another body laying around for backup, I'd try a drop of wd-40 or something like that. I could be 100% off here, just my thoughts...anyone?

NOOOOO !
No WD-40 - it is petroleum-based and deteriorates rubber/plastics. Also leaves a film which would attract dirt.

How long have you had the camera theres always a year manufacturer warranty so you might be able to return it to sony good luck though because in my past experiences they arent the most friendly people....

hahaha you havnt sold that thing yet?! ;)

I appreciate the advice fellas. I think ill just try the water/compressed air technique and see how that works. So an alcohol solvent would be too coarse?

50/50 Alcohol and water may work.

Need to base the cleaning solution on what the gummy mixture is. Generally mixed drinks/sodas have sugar in it, and water disolves sugar better than anything around. Using distilled water only will ensure no minerals / chemicals are left behind.
The 50/50 mix may work also, as that is what is recommended for cleaning LCD monitor screens.
