I received many comments for my picture Kitchen Witch asking what the hell it was. Well here goes:

A kitchen witch is a pagan good luck charm that you put in your kitchen. It is supposed to ward off the evil kitchen spirits that would make your souflee fall, or your cake not rise, etc. Originally they were actually some form of witch (stuffed), but people now use many things to represent the 'kitchen witch'. Ours are dried oranges, cinamon sticks and bay leaves on a string.

Not that I'm superstitious, just that my kids made these things at DAycare and we just have them hanging in our windows cause they look nice.

My picture is a macro of the dried orange.

Thanks for listening.
