Hello, I just did a few studio shots today, and I know that they aren't great, but I tried 4 different ps techniques, and was wondering what works? I see a little something that I like in all of them, but I would appreciate any sincere opinions or suggestions. Thank you........Thank you very much!(Bad elvis impersonation!)

Thanks! I have a sigma 70-200 2.8, and one softbox to the right, and a snoot to the back left.

Hi Brian,
Now, you know I don't do portraits--I just proved it--but you also know I always have an opinion ;)
I think they all work! I think they're all terrific. But putting it a different way, if I had to rank them, I'd say, [EDIT: I meant Left to Right Top to Bottom not clockwise]
4, 1, 3, 2
Here's why the last two are in that place:
Rank 4) This one is excellent, but just doesn't work as well as the first two. If I had to say why, it's more "ordinary", and perhaps the shadows are a just a shade too deep on his face.
Rank 3) This one is the selective desat. It's a very cute pose, the eyes are cute, but something about the light face and the blue eyes didn't work as well when I first looked at it. Maybe it's the large amound of very similar gray tones to it. On the other hand, now I'm staring at it and is is quite a nice shot. On a small nit, theres that hot spot on the side of his head.
But like I said, they all are fabulous and I'm just brainstorming per your request.

Hey Neil,
Thanks so much. I am almost in the same order as far as how they appeal to me. They are all similar in lighting, so I can process any of them in one way or another. Just experimenting to see what works. I, personally like the straight, almost unretouched color one the best. I do appreciate your feedback! My best to you.

I like them all, the only thing is the one labled 6, did you fuzz out the front of his face in post processing, if you did, it looks kindof strange for the face to be soft focus but the side of his head to be sharp kwim? I though face fuzzing was for older women ;-) LOL
Great Job! |

Thanks for the comment beach. I was using a shallow dof for studio lighting, and I try to catch the eyes. I do notice it now that you say it. Thats why I like to use others eyes! It makes me see things that mine missed. I appreciate that!
And congrats on 16th place on your second challenge!!! WHEW HEW! It was a beautiful shot!
