I feel like I have to explain myself all the time. It's frustrating to create a pic where you try to be different, and you do things to it on purpose and it is thought that it is by mistake... urg!! That and I'm hating my rinky dink camera compared to all the great equipment everybody else has... still.... I LIKE my stuff. I LIKE my effects.... I don't think I will ever be good enough on here... and I've only just started... *sigh* please forgive my rant... |

Jozi, you don't have to explain yourself at all. If your happy with your photo that is all you can ask. Also as far as people commenting on what you have designed into the photo well they don't know that, and they are only trying to be helpfull by commenting on that part.

You know what? I don't do very good on here.... And when I started I used a "rinky dink" camera too! I just like being here so that I can expand my mind and my creativity. This place helps me think of new things to do and I am glad for that. It's really great for when I hit a slump.
What is most important, is that YOU are happy with your pictures. There are alot of times that I enter a picture and I am very proud of it, but it doesn't do good here, so what..... I like it.
Stay here for you and to learn more. It's a good place to be.

dpc is hard! Sometimes you feel like nobody cares and other times you feel welcome. Take a break if you have to but don't leave, just don't stop taking pictures. |

Jozi,
You don't "have" to explain yourself, any of the time or all of the time. Some people (like me) enjoy explaining themselves, but it's usally preferable not to.
As to the rinky dink camera, it's only a problem if you rank your "success" by the scores you receive. ANY camera will do for the purpose of expanding your vision, and the better you get with the point 'n shoot, the better you'll be when you finally move up.
Just keep true to your own vision, your own goals, whatever these may be, and take from this site with a glad heart whatever feedback furthers that vision and those goals. In any site like this, there will always be contradictory feedback, and there will be more or less equal portions of true wisdom and arrant nonsense in the mixture as well. If this weren't true, it wouldn't be art.
Chin up!
Robt.

Nobody says you have to explain your self. Your camera can produce images that score well here: Highest Rated Photographs for PowerShot A60.
It's difficult here at dpc be different and score high. Perhaps you are putting too much pressure on yourself to do both at the same time. If YOU like your stuff, that's a very good start. Three challenges isn't really a very large sample. Hang in there for about a dozen and see where you are then.

Hey, I feel your pain, truly. Hang in there. There's lots to learn. Do the best with what you have. You'll learn just as much with your camera as you would with a $5000 one, maybe even more (because you force yourself to). And if you're happy with your stuff and you're not out to please someone else, that's all that counts. If someone else likes it too, then bonus.

What am I even doing on here...?
After a year I only ask myself that once or twice a day!
I'm an administrator on a tropical fish forum and there is a guy on there that posts awesome images from his Canon 1DS. Everybody thinks its the camera that takes good shots but he recently purchased a 3mb digicam for his pocket, the fish pictures are awesome from it.
Stay around, take the knocks when they come and learn, I honestly don't think you will find a better, more just digital photography forum anywhere. If you just want people to rave about all your pictures nomatter what they are like I may be able to point you to a few sites - but do you really want that????

You guys are great. Thanks for your wonderful comments... My current separation submission isn't doing so great either but I love it. I really put myself into it and spent many hours working on it (although it might not look like it...)
Thanks again! |

Don't worry about your camera. I scored a 6.1 once with a camera that was so dodgy (0.9mp) and also a 6. Yes some lower priced cameras limit you, but you can still achieve amazing results with them.
I for one don't necessarily feel the need to enter challenges, because I don't care about winning. If I post something or enter something, its because I am proud of it. No comments or votes can take that away from me.
All you can do is learn and you control that. Don't let others get in your way. Photography is an art form, everyone percieves thinsg different and no one person is right.

Jozi, I can't wait to see which one is yours. :) Hang in there, and by the way - you are greatly appreciated for the many warm comments you've left in my portfolio. Stick around and learn what you can and enjoy your photos. It's only an imaginary ribbon, only an exercise for your photography, and a great way to enjoy your camera. |

I too started here with a 'little' cam, one piece of advice that I would like to give is to listen to the comments, look at the winning images and be totally honest with yourself in accepting what you need to do to improve.
I loved my first entry and was amazed that it did not do too well at the time, now I look back and can see exactly why.
DPC is by far the greatest learning platform that I've come found in the world of photography. Don't worry about the integrity of your art, you have far more to lose by not rising to the challenge, additionally you only have to look at the most successful members on here to see that their art is very much intact (jjbeguin, dsidwell, heida).
As time goes on you will appreciate that DPC is not the be all and end all of photography, but it is a fantastic resource.
Above all, enjoy your photography :)

Read that, study it, follow it. Your score will improve.
And once you don't care about the scores anymore, your photographer will as well. :)
