My portrait didn't finish well but nonetheless several people asked how I did it.
At the last minute I went out and bought a cheap disco strobe light. I got a straight shot of myself, printed it and stuck it to a yo-yo with double sided tape. I set up the strobe light and cranked it to full. I set the camera to manual and experimented until I got something usable. I didn't get exactly what I had envisioned but I entered it anyway. The strobe was straight on and in retrospect I think I would have bounced the light off some white poster board to show the shape of the yo-yo more. (For those who asked, sorry to bore you other people.) :)
