Well was tempting to put this in the Rant forum lol but all my RAW files appear to be corrupted. My computer is slow at converting RAW to JPG (approx. 2 mins for each in PS, USM, resize, save for web Droplet).. so i decided to delete all my programs i didn't use, clean up my harddrive of files i don't need and do both a Disk CLeanup and a Defragmentation.

Well, that went ok but i tried converting all of my files to JPG and i couldn't as they seem to be corrupted!! argh!

Is there anything i can do to save them? (the thumbnails appear ok).

another thing, my Droplet, it seems i can only "drop in" a few files at a time? i have a 180 RAWs but it says i don't have permission

System restore?

I doubt the files are corrupt, just the converter, just guessin.

It sounds to me like you probably deleted something you needed.

Did you "delete" or "uninstall" your unneeded programs?

If you would like me to take a look at one of your RAW files to make sure it is still readable, send me an IM or PM and I will give you an email address to use.

Before you do ANYTHING else you should backup all the data files you don't want to lose. CD/DVD/another hard drive - whatever you have to hand. Just BACK THEM UP before you mess with anything else.

As the others have said you most likely broke the converter rather than the data files themselves. But just in case something is corrupting the data files you should be taking a backup.

If you back up to a CD/DVD you could take that disk to another PC and try the RAW extraction there to see if it's the files or the programs that got corrupted.

i just uninstalled old programs that i didn't use, just old audio processing programs etc.. nothing in the way of imaging/graphics.

Thanks for the offer Terry but i do have another computer which i'll try them on, i'll give that a try first.

If that works i'll reinstall PS CS and the NEF plugin.

Thanks guys! fortunately i don't have any fantastic pics but it's always a shame to lose them.

PC or Mac?
If Mac, try going to Disk Utility first and resetting permissions. Can fix alot of things.

PC..

i reinstalled PS and the Plugin but it still didn't work. I then installed NikonView as i wanted a quick way of seeing/sorting my RAW's, after i had installed it PS opened all my files no problem!

There are two kinds of computer users in the world.
1. Those who have lost data due to hardware/software falure.
2. Those who will lose data due to hardware/software falure.

Backup, backup, backup, people.

/puts everything on 2 hard drives, still nervous.
