Ok, all the comments I got on my Pain entry DID NOT care for the inversion I used. Please look at these and let me know which version is more effective and why.
Thanks in advance.

They show pain, simply because what brings on stiches usually hurts like a biatch, but I'm not sure how this works as an effective photo. Why do you like it?

The challenge was to depict pain. The incision from the surgery certainly indicated pain. I thought I was going for the one with the most impact.
Thanks Jacko.

I know you were in some pain, my mother had to have both wrist done at the same time. She worked in a cotton mill for 46 years and from the repetitive motion she developed carpal tunnel syndrome. So I feel for your. Now back to the picture, it was a basic editing challenge so there was not of post processing you could of done to make the shot more dramatic at the same time minimizing the gruesome scare. So that only leaves one other thing to do and that is to add more element to you photograph. Here is what I think would of worked well:

Take a self-timed picture of you having DPChallenge up on your computer screen and having to type with one hand while holding the hurt hand in the direction of the camera. That way you would of had a picture that was more than one dimensional. It would of been hard to pull off but I believe with the right lighting [say the monitor light shining on the wound] would of made for a great picture.
Just my 2 cents.

To answer your question, I think the one entered is the more effective for this audience.

Suggestions:
First of all, the image is out of focus. I think that always hurts (no pun intended).
Second, some post-processing might help, as well as a different crop:
All I did to your color image was adjust contrast & brightness, invert, then crop.

My 2ts. Hope that helps.

I think you're right. The crop is much better. Thanks!
