I've just uploaded a (small) gallery of self portrait shots I took today, and would appreciate any feedback you can spare - especially since I've not shot this kinda thing before! I'm not normally one for putting myself in front of the camera, it's too scary...

Please let me know what you think, and any tips on how to improve this style of shot would be very useful!

Just had a look at you shots.

First of all I'm not a real fan of High Key images so your behind with me to start with but that is just my taste.
I think the eyes and mouth shots have the most potential and I would try to avoid views from below that look up nostrils and into open mouths.
I played around with my self portrait for the challenge but couldn't bring myself around to post them so I admire the way you have.

Actually looking natural in front of a camera isn't easy. Getting married helps.

You really don't look comfortable in front of that camera. In fact you seem to have resorted to pulling faces rather than trying to actually take a nice photo of yourself.

I do like high key images and these are fine. But I don't like the poor focus (intended or otherwise) and the fact that you don't look comfortable makes me feel uncomfortable. And pulling faces seems like a cop-out.

Well at least I'm honest.

Thanks for the honest criticisms, much appreciated. Yes, I'm not comfortable in front of the camera, but I said as much beforehand, and was in a way trying to capture that too. OK, they were mostly just me messing around trying to find a good idea for my PaD (which I eventually used this shot for), so I wasn't taking it too seriously. Looking back, I think the shot that worked the best was in fact "eyes", which I wish I'd got into focus more.

Thanks again, and you might see me in front of the camera sometime in the future, but I can't guarantee anything ;o)
