I guess this is a new addition to the Sigma line and everything that I have read seems to indicate it as a really good value. Has anyone used this lens and if so, what do you think?

This lens is not new at all. The "Bigma," as it is known, is a highly-regarded lens in terms of value for dollars spent. Bear in mind of course that it is a slow lens (f/4-6.3), and heavy, you you will want to use a monopod or tripod with it. Also be aware that for very fast action, you may not be able to get the shutter speeds you need with this glass, at least not in anything less than full daylight.

If you are looking to pick up this lens, crabappl3 is selling his Nikin-mount Bigma barely-used for $750 (details here). He has also posted some sample shots taken with the lens here.

If you are looking to get this lens new, it is available for $989.00.

the new one is the 80-400 with an IS system. I like the bigma and it is everything people say it is. Heavy, built like a tank. Amazing range for the cost.
It can be hand held in good light at 500mm.
and goes to 50mm in the next frame
Good nature lens, but slow enough to make getting them on the wing a challenge.
For lower light it needs a tripod and cable release

If you don't need the short end you might also want to check out the Tamron 200-500. It is one of the newly redesigned lens by Tamron for digital. See this thread:
