Yahoo! My new Tamron SP AF 200-500mm F5-6.3 Di LD (IF) arrived a few days ago and I was able to get out and take a few test shots. For those interested here are two 640x640 100% crops from the untouched "out of camera" originals.
If you want to see more and / or look at the exif data you can go here:
Tamorn 200-500 100% Test Shot Crops
Be back later to see what you think. Time to go out and play some more!

Could you post the EXIF data for those shots--specifically the shutter speed? Both look fairly soft, and without knowing the shutter speed, it's impossible to say if the softness is from camera shake or the lens itself.
I do like the "expression" on the duck in the second photo! |

Try the PBase link in my original post. These shots are there with some others and the exif data is below each photo after you click on it. They are a little soft, but then again I have very shaky hands, even with the monopod. Now, if I could afford about 7 times the cost I could buy the Nikon 200-400 VR - rated one of the best lenses they ever made. One can dream!
edit: BTW - I took a few more shots today and will post the crops when I have a chance.

OK, last bump of this thread. For those interested I posted a few more 100% crops of shots like this one:
at:
PBase Linlk
I will leave the page up on PBase for a month or so.

They pretty much all look slightly soft or out of focus, even the ones at 1/1250th. You may need to use this bad boy with a tripod.

Yup - that is what I have been thinking. I have been only using handheld and with a monopod. I'm not the steadiest guy around so I think a new heavier tripod is now on my list.
