10 years ago, our old hospital was demolished by implosion.
It was quite the sight. I wish I had had a digital cam back then. I got as close to the action as legally allowed. There were thousands of cars and even more people gathered in the streets and the hillsides, to get a view of the hospital's final moments.
See here: Implosion pic
Once the dust had settled, it was discovered that the dome at the very top had survived the implosion without a scratch. It was just sitting at the top of the mountains of debris. The public demand to do something with the dome pushed a local company to purchase the dome and a few years later, a park was built, highlighting the newly repolished copper dome. It is meticulously maintained throughout the year and has now become a lovely landmark in our city. So although the skyline will never be the same without our beloved General Hospital, at least a piece of it still remains.
I snapped this pic just a few days ago (not the best as I was a passenger in a moving vehicle at the time...)

I think you just wrote a mini-tutorial about photography. The lessons to be learned and remembered are:
1. There is a story (be it big or small) behind every photograph.
2. Always carry your camera with you. (you just never know, do you?)
3. If you have to choose between a technologically-perfect picture
or no picture, choose the former; the worst picture is NO picture.
Thank you. I enjoyed the picture and the story! Kathy |
