How long does Canon usually support a lens line (like EF or FD).

A pretty long time. Not near as long as Nikon has carried thier "D" lenses or Pentax has carried their "K" mount lenses.
Canon is making some serious investments in the current EF compatible DSLRs and new EF lenses so I don't see them changing up any time soon.
