So, if you were investing in a single macro lens for your 20D, which would you choose? Looking for something that has a good reputation, flexible, excellent sharpness, etc.
100mm Canon? |

The one you mention has a good reputation for close shooting......
Canon EF 100mm f/2 USM
this is something new......
Canon EF-S 60 mm F2.8 macro
but the tried and tested would be....
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM
here is some links to Macro King Jacko's recommendations......
Tamron SP AF90MM F/2.8 Di Macro 1:1
Sigma 105mm f2.8 EX Macro 1:1 Lens

Don't forget to look at the Sigma 105mm, and the Tamron 90mm.

Yeah, except the 100mm f2 isn´t a macro lens, only the 100mm 2.8 is a macro that can focus up to 1:1.
Anyway, had and recently sold the 105 sigma, I reccomend it for optics, it´s sharp as a whistle but I sold it to get a USM focus motor, and the canon doens´t grow longer when you focus closely and also I plan on buying a canon macro flash sometime this year. |

My recommendation is always the Canon 100/2.8 Macro USM. It provides superb optical performance for both Macro work and also for use a a general-purpose short telephoto. It's an absolutely stunning choice for portrait work.
