Howdy all.

Looking for some advice on tuning my setup a bit. The next purchase I plan to make is the 580EX flash because I cannot stand the onboard flash that is constantly blowing everything out. Additionally, since I am trying to do more work from my tripod and seem to be taking more longer exposure pictures I think the time has come to invest in some form of shutter release gear or the like.

From what I have read, it sounds like the 20D is wireless capable and that the 580EX flash has capabilities in this area as well. Can someone please educate me a bit on their own experiences and if this is the way to go .... perhaps along with a suggested setup? Or perhaps just the standard shutter release cable is all that is needed, nothing too fancy.

Thoughts?

Thanks all for your time.

I suggest the TC-80 Timer controller. Unless you really, really need wireless.

It may not be what you need, but have you tried using the timer release and mirror lock-up features of your 20D ?

Check with the manual -- you should be able to reduce the flash output. I know that's a possibility on the 10d. Sorry, can't answer the other questions, but I would suggest taking a look at Canon's site.
