Im rather new at this photography thing, but very exited. I tend to take a LOT of images to get one that turn up ok. Photoshop also has to save me most of the times.
I like to take portraits.
Here is a singer ( Marita ) that I "borrowed" from a friend =) to take some images of.

I'm not quite clear on what you did here. Did you take a picture of your friend's photographs or posters? or did you use your friend's photographs and fool around in PS8?
Either way, I found all the odd colorings (from shadows, stained-glass windows, water-reflections?) distracting. It was rather amusing to see the enlarged pores in her facial skin in the photo of her resting on her sweater-covered arm (no woman, no matter how equisite, loves seeing that!)
However, I must admit, I was truly drawn to the one where she is resting on her arm. The coloring pulled me in to that one.

No , these are shots I took of her at my home.
Maybe I should have said that I used my friends wife for a photo session.
The pors are actually diminished =) believe it or not.
The "water reflections " are actually attempts to fake sunlight. ( failed miserably I guess =) )

Given you're new to the game, you're doing really well...
I like all three of these, although the 'sunlight' is a little overdone IMHO..
I'm having trouble with the middle one though, on one hand it's clear, well exposed and you've seperated your model from the background really well.. But, photos looking up a womans nose are not the most flattering.
Your friends wife is pretty, and has great eyes for portraits, get her back and play some more!
Cheers, Chris H.

I really like the first 2 photos, and I commented on them.
The 3rd one (white BG) is not flattering to the model at all, IMO. Makes her look much older.
It's still a nice portrait, but not as good as the first two.
I liked that sunlight effect really, but I didn't think it looked good at the current setup.
If the background had a more natural feeling to it, I think it would look better.
Still, if you're new, I think you're doing really great.

The first and second ones are good. How did you get that effect where everything sort of looks like a drawing or painting (almost looks like you took a picture of a poster).

Thanks for your kind comments.

All images are heavily retouched ( the white background is a white background though, so I did not have to mask it away ) which make them appear somewhat artificial . Ive been going thru some retouching tutorials , and am using bits of all of them. The animated look may come from the use of the Median filter that I use to smoothen parts of the face. The lighting ( really cheap lights were used ) may add to the effect.
