I believe I've heard that the big reason for forcing photographers to vote for all submissions was to in a way limit submissions. I have some thoughts/ideas on this:

1) Require photgraphers to vote on x percentage (a cumulative average) So, if the average is 75% and I regularly vote on 100%, I could submit to a challenge and concievably vite on very few entries. Although, I would then have to again pick up the pace.

2) Require photographers to leave a comment for x number of entries. I think this ends up being more important than votes. I want comments!! My better pictures get more comments (thanks BTW) than my bad ones. I think it's easier for people to say I like this than to say I don't like this part of this.

3) Darn it, I had some other thoughts but they escaped me, sorry guys.

All in all I am VERY happy with the site! I've been using the since 1994, and this is the site that has most engaged and entrapped me. keep up the good work!

I don't think it's just a way to limit submissions, even if it does. I see it as more of a responsibility issue... you shouldn't expect votes unless you're willing to give them out yourself.

I also worry that requiring comments will lead to a lot of "this sux" and "this roolz" cluttering everything, I like that only the people who care enough to comment will actually do it.

Take that! :)

And of course, I'm very happy with the site! I sincerely hope that Langdon and Drew understand that the majority of our fervor comes from dedication and passion, not resentment.

Besides, I do interface design and web programming and I offered to help them out on the side... an offer they politely turned down. That must mean they have everything under control and can handle even more suggestions for improvements, right? :)
