Why do the photos challenged for disqualification have to be identified as "valid" in bright orange lettering?
To my thinking, this is akin to the scarlet letter.
If a defendant, facing a jury trial, were brought into court wearing an orange jumpsuit and handcuffed, any lawyer (worth his/her salt) would vigorously protest that wearing the jumpsuit gives the appearance of a "presumption of guilt" before any evidence has even been given. He/she would demand that the client be presented for trial in civilian clothes.
I realize that the site council is simply announcing to anyone else thinking of challenging the photo for disqualification that a challenge has already been made, judged and the photo has been proclaimed valid. Then why not simply print "Valid" in black lettering under the photo in question? As a juror simply rating the photo, the fact that it has been challenged is inconsequential to me. However, when a bright orange statement appears below it, I now become suspicious of . . . something. . . but I know not what!
Another burning question: On a Canon - in the auto focus menu, you see "AI Servo" or "AI Focus." What does "AI" or "Al"(L) stand for? I always translate it mentally as "ALL" Servo or "All" Focus but I am thinking that isn't what it really means. I have looked all through the Canon manuel for an explanation but found none. |

This is a photo contest... not a murder trial.

Are you saying that orange = guilty and black = innocent ?
I don't get it. What does the color of the text have to do with it?

well, we have had a problem in the past of people voting down images that they thought were illegally edited. so the bright validation is to let us, the voters, immediately know that the photo is in fact valid...which should theoretically ease your suspicion, not make it worse. ;) |

Then why not just say, "A Valid Photo?" We shouldn't need the bright orange.

I believe it is Artificial Intelligence - as it helps you do the focusing on fast moving subjects.

Some of those validated shots were vaildated at the photographer's request. If you have a shot that people think might be illegal some people tend to vote it down. One is suppoed to vote on all entries as if they were legal, but people do alot of things they are not supposed to do. I have seen a swing of two points from one day's voting to the next becaue one of my shots had that orange "VALIDATED" below it. Now when I do something clever that could be seen by others as having been done by another illegal manner, I send in proof with my submission. |

note: heavy sarcasm to follow....
maybe we should all adjust our monitor's brightness and contrast until all images/text appear the same color, this may help with the bias involved here...
just kidding of course, it's those other satire threads gettin' to me :)
In all honesty I do see where you're coming from, makes the viewer want to figure out what they're missing, and over-evaluate the photo... |

Thanks Dave. Sounds better than "ALL"
Sarcasm is fine with me.

Yes, Deborah. I feel that is exactly what happens. text |
