Yes Utro, you commented. Jinjit, if you "didn't think it was that bad" you're swimming with a minority LOL.
I wish my "good" pictures could get this sort of response, sigh...

Up to 4.6 again, whoohoo!
Come on. Only 4 comments, more people must have been able to spot my terrible attempt at taking a portrait, you should be able to recoginize me. Come on, comment, tell me how crappy I am looking! :)

There ya go... (I hope). ;)
Had already scored you, but just left a critique, so any score that came in at that time is a coincidence. |

Ok, so if I commented, and if my PM yesterday made any sense related to your picture, then it must be the one I'm thinking of. And if it is so, how can that be a 3? It just makes no sense to me.
Go figure...

My observation is that this challenge has a great collection of images. In reading this thread I think you folks are too hard on each other. What is it with these score of threes and fours? I understand one image has over 20 comments and a score of 3.xxx. I can assure you that there are not that many threes here yet the majority of revealed scores are all very poor.
There are funny, serious, studious, candid and creative images. Is it the variety that has proved a problem? I do not think so. As a matter of fact, I have found the quality and ideas very impressive. Not every image has to follow a classical formula. There is room for the well focus and the soft focus as well. Anyway, just an observation. I have enjoyed voting on this challenge. |

Funk,
I got 36 comments and 3.3xxx. Virtually all the comments tell me it doesn't meet the challenge. Apparently it so blatantly "doesn't meet the challenge" (never mind that I thought it did) as to make it essentially worthless. I expected exactly this though, so I am keeping my spirits up throughout the debacle. :-)

This challenge has to be the toughest since the best of 2004 challenge to mark down for not meeting the challenge. Nice to see that some people are willing to go the extra mile in scoring and comments. |

Robert--did you get a comment from me yet? I tried to guess what might be yours based on what might not meet the challenge to some and commented. I'll probably do some more later. |

This to me is a very exciting challenge simply because we are asked to reveal ourselves. Some have taken the totally honest approach while others took the opportunity to be creative. Regardless, most of us prefer to be behind the camera. Considering this simple human nature element I decided to vote different on this challenge.
My lowest vote is a 5. 6 for above average. 7 for the creative element, 8 for well balanced lighting, composition and exposure. 9 for outstanding work and 10 for the image with the great "wow' factor. End of story. |

Ok I went through all the photos again and there's just one photo that maybe, just maybe could be considered as not meeting the challenge. So if that one is yours - Robert, then my PM was not suppose to make any sense and I must have thought someone else for you. Still, I gave that one photo a 6, because it was just wonderful IMO. As I commented, I would expect something of it to make it more "meeting the challenge", but even the way it is, I thought it was good. And I can not say it completely doesn't meet the challnge. i think it's title is very much explaining the idea behind it.
Daniel, First - let me say how good it is to see you around again!!!
I used more or less the same method you used in my votes. But still there were a couple of images that did get below 5. I really thought they were... how to put it without offending anyone... well... lame. Technically as well as the idea-wise.
But I was having so much fun looking at all those wonderful ideas people had for introducing themselves!

Thanks to those who are keeping me above my overall average. Looking forward to seeing who everyone is - I've recognized a few so far. :)

My stats are horrid... It doesn't help that people don't recognize an effect done on purpose, but it also doesn't help that I uploaded the wrong pic... grrrr. Oh well...

I don't understand how so many people could have this low of scores... I didn't score anything below 5. I really don't see any that deserve such low scores... those that are a little lacking technically generally make up for it creatively, and I don't see how any of them could fail to meet the challenge if you look closely. |

I agree. I didn't score any portraits lower than 5 myself. I might even give the non-portrait(s) a bump. This one is for fun people. :)

I have gone down further still. I have lots of nice comments (19), but I would really really like to have some from the people who DON'T like it!
So why not please take a second and go tell me why you didn't like it. It will save you a thread later when I will inevitably post "why did this do poorly" and "didn't you see it", and then as usual, only the people who liked it anyway will respond.
Oh Oh, I feel myself getting cynical. ;) |

Hard not to be cynical at times Neil. All my comments were of the nice variety too. It would be great to hear from someone who scored it poorly, just to see what was so frikken bad.

I am more and more often finding myself commenting only with the good things about an image. I somehow get the feeling that many people are offended by any bad or even just less excited comments about their photographs and although I try to "go easy" on people when commenting the "bad" stuff, I find it very hard to do when afterwards I see all kinda responses from those who were offended or did not accept my comment the way it was ment.
I suppose my language problem has a very big part of the misunderstanding at times but still it does not help it's purpose, does it...
As for being cynical... Neil, you just have to be very thankful to the fact that I'm not easy to express myself in English. If you call yourself cynical, you did not meet a cynical person before ;-)

Not a horrible score. The 12 comments are all good ones too.
