and go see the André Kertész exhibit at the US National Gallery

I saw it this past weekend and the guy definately understood light and composition. Most of the photos are rather small (the earliest works are no larger than a few centimeters), but you can get right up on them and really take them in.

Kertész had this inate sense for photographing subjects without setup, saying that he didn't need imagination since life provided all he needed...and it was true. It was quite refreshing to see photos that are purely natural, with no staging by the photographer, no interference.

So, if you can make it to DC, take a look, it's truly worth the time (lots of other cool stuff in DC too).

Andre Kertesz is one of the all-time greats, for sure...

That sounds excellent... I am down in the DC area on a regular basis. I will be sure to make time for this.

They also have prints and a number of books with his works available.

Also, if you like the photo of the ballet troop on the street with the ballerinas suspended in mid-air, walk along the mall side of the museum toward the Washington monument and there is a big blow-up of it (they won't let you photograph the exhibit, so this is a good chance to pose with one of the really great shots).
